Comenzamos el ejercicio para esta reforma con la condición de lidiar con un programa complejo dadas las condiciones del espacio: una vivienda con 3 habitaciones, dos baños y una gran pieza salón – cocina – comedor en un espacio lineal que se expresa como un arduo pasillo. El espacio, condicionado por su acceso desde la parte posterior, se caracterizaba por una serie de habitaciones que volcaban sobre un patio interior y único espacio que se volcaba al exterior.

Nuestra primera acción fue la de trabajar muy cercanos a la materia, como Beuys, buscándola ahí donde estaba. Descubrimos todos los elementos constructivos que definían este espacio, ahí encontramos la potencia expresiva de los elementos portantes que se mostraban como unos pórticos de hormigón con un encofrado de múltiples puestas y posiciones que constituían el espíritu del espacio en la repetición sucesiva de dichos elementos. A su vez, en nuestra ̈expedición ̈ apareció un muro de ladrillo que pasó a constituir parte de uno de los espacios principales de la vivienda y que nos construye, en cierto modo, una memoria de hogar.

Una vez realizadas las demoliciones y con la potencia expresiva del espacio expuesta, se decide actuar con un cofre de madera que traba sus elementos y una serie de alfombras cerámicas – 3 en total – que nos demarcan 3 situaciones y tránsitos en la vivienda. El cofre, define todo el espacio como una gran línea construida entre dos límites; el exterior se muestra como un espacio de transiciones y diferentes secuencias, el acceso, una zona de almacenamiento , el pequeño nuevo corredor definido por un plano abstracto blanco y sus paredes de rugosa apariencia gracias al mortero de cal, que define el principio y final de estos pórticos.

Tras estas transiciones encontramos el gran espacio, como si de un diafragma se tratase, ensanchando el límite del pasillo para mostrarnos la crujía por completo. Esta serie de acciones nos permite transformar la forma de comprender la relación entre el patio y la vivienda de modo que encontramos dos nuevas aperturas en el espacio principal junto con la existente al exterior.

El proyecto entiende la cuestión de la vivienda y trata de aunar la experiencia táctil espacial con la historia material del espacio; usando ambos caminos como un sendero unido en el que trazar esta nueva arquitectura también corpórea.

We began the exercise for this renovation with the condition of dealing with a complex program given the conditions of the space: a house with 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large living room – kitchen – dining room in a linear space that is expressed as an arduous corridor. The space, conditioned by its access from the back, was characterized by a series of rooms that opened onto an interior patio and the only space that opened to the outside.

Our first action was to work very close to the material, like Beuys, looking for it where it was. We discovered all the construction elements that defined this space, there we found the expressive power of the load-bearing elements that were shown as concrete frames with a formwork of multiple placements and positions that constituted the spirit of the space in the successive repetition of said elements. At the same time, on our “expedition” a brick wall appeared that became part of one of the main spaces of the house and that builds, in a certain way, a memory of home for us.

Once the demolitions were carried out and with the expressive power of the space exposed, it was decided to act with a wooden chest that locks its elements and a series of ceramic carpets – 3 in total – that demarcate 3 situations and transits in the home. The coffer defines all space as a great line built between two limits; The exterior is shown as a space of transitions and different sequences, the access, a storage area, the small new corridor defined by a white abstract plane and its walls with a rough appearance thanks to the lime mortar, which defines the beginning and end of these porticos.

After these transitions we find the large space, as if it were a diaphragm, widening the limit of the corridor to show us the entire bay. This series of actions allows us to transform the way of understanding the relationship between the patio and the home so that we find two new openings in the main space along with the existing one to the outside.

The project understands the issue of housing and tries to combine the spatial tactile experience with the material history of the space; using both paths as a united path in which to trace this new corporeal architecture.
